Design Question: How can the format of a publication be expanded upon to encourage readers to consider the relationship between mathematical processes and the natural world?
My project takes the form of a personal archive of my own botanical interpretations. Through interaction with this idiosyncratic documentation, readers were encouraged to speculate and form their own connections between the mathematical and natural spheres - two worlds that at first glance seem unconnected. Analyzing a range of botanical species and applying the data to specifically designed equations generated the content. These equations determined the circumference and pen-hole placement on each spirograph tool, which is derived from the use of tools in drawing and the creation of accurate and synchronous pattern, also evident in natural form creating the relationship between mathematical process and the natural world.
